Keppel Family Daycare Home
MY CHILDCARE PHILOSOPHY:
I have always believed that children learn through play. A child's early experiences enrich and stimulate future growth. My goal is to provide your child with a safe, fun, happy and education environment.
DAYS AND HOURS:
We are open Monday – Friday from 7:00 am - 6:00 pm with the days and Holidays listed in this contract. When you enroll your child in our home childcare I will ask for specific days and hours you plan for your child to attend. Although I am open from 7:00 am-6:00 pm I base your fee on the days and hours that we agree upon in the rate agreement. If your days and hours change please let me know so we can adjust the rate agreement and possibly the fee as well. If a early arrival or late departure become a regular event I may need to adjust your rate. Late arrival does not justify late departure.
Your specific rates will be outlined in your rate agreement. Payment is due on the first day of the week that your child is in attendance. If the fee is not paid when due, a late fee of $5.00 per day may be assessed. If payment is not received by the third day of child's attendance for the week the child may not be permitted to return until all fees due have been paid in full. You will receive a receipt at year end for tax purposes. In case of illness, your payment is still expected unless other arrangements have been made. If I close my daycare due to my own illness, I will give you a credit for that day or days the following week. You will not be charged for childcare in the event I have to close for the day.
SIGN IN/ SIGN OUT:
Each day upon arriving the parent is required to sign the child in noting the time of arrival. This is to be followed by signing the child out when they leave. This gives me a written record of the child's attendance, hours, and who brought/picked up.
The first two weeks of care are considered probationary. Either the parent or the provider may terminate the initial agreement at any time during this period. After the probationary period, a two weeks written notice is required by either party.
Family childcare provides your child the comfort and experience of belonging to an extended family. I provide a home like setting where children learn through play; therefore I do not follow a strict schedule or routine. Children are offered choices whenever possible and are encouraged but never forced to participate in any group activities. You may not see a lot in the way of papers or daily work from your child, this does not mean that we have done nothing all day. We do allow the children to watch tv, play age appropriate video games and use computers around our other activities. I also occasionally use educational ipad apps. during one on one time or during circle time as an additional fun way of teaching and learning. An example of a few activities that we do regularly are circle time, pretend play, dress up, puzzles, painting, coloring, play-doh, flash cards, reading, games, singing and dancing, lego building arts and crafts, walks around the block.
During the hot summer months we may not spend a lot of time outside. I will try weather permitting to have some kind of daily outside play time. Even if only 10 minutes at a time here and there. We may play in a small kiddie pool or under the water hose on occasion. If you would prefer your child not participate in water activities for whatever reason please let me know in advance. The children are supervised very closely during water play and will never be left unattended for any reason. During the cooler months we like to spend a lot of time outside. Usually several hours a day. The children love to be outside and so do we. We do take occasional walks to feed the ducks or just to get out of the house for a short period of time. Please let me know if you would prefer your child not go on these walks as we will be leaving the property for a short while.
Infants and young toddlers will be fed on demand or as agreed upon by parent and provider. For all other children the meals are scheduled as follows 8:00-8:30 Breakfast. 12:00-12:30 Lunch. I also provide 2 snacks during the day. If your child will be arriving after a scheduled mealtime please be sure they have eaten. I will no longer be serving meals other than our regular meal times. Note to parents of Infants: Parents need to supply all formula and all baby food until the child is over the age of 1 year old and eating solids. I will however provide small snacks if your baby is eating snacks. If your child is taking breast milk, please make sure your child has made the transition to a bottle prior to their first day in our care.
NAP TIME/QUIET TIME:
Nap time is after lunch, usually around 1:00 ALL children are expected to respect this “quiet time”. The children need this rest time and we need the quiet time to be able to clean up and prepare for the afternoon activities, catch up on paperwork, just relax etc. Please be reminded that I do not get “breaks” and “lunch breaks” as in other jobs. Nap time is my only time to relax a little in a 12+ hour workday. If your child is no longer taking naps during the day we do have them relax and do quiet activities such as watch television, read books, do puzzles, etc. Please be advised that I do not wake up children that fall asleep in my care. If they normally do not nap and during quiet time your child falls asleep I will not fight to wake your child up or keep him or her awake.
I believe in discipline that is provided through a combination of positive reinforcement, re-direction and time-out. It will be expected that we work together to alter negative behavior. Discipline and guidance should nurture love, patience and concern through the caregiver resulting in a secure child with high self-esteem and positive self-image.
REPAIRS AND/OR REPLACEMENT OF PERSONAL PROPERTY:
When children play, equipment and toys may be accidentally broken. That is expected in a childcare home. However, if your child purposely damages and childcare property, or personal property of mine, my family or of another child's such as toys, books, equipment or furnishings, you will be expected to replace the item or pay for the replacement or repair.
TOYS/ITEMS BROUGHT FROM HOME:
The children are free to bring toys if they wish. However our rule is, “If you bring it, you share it”. If the toy is delicate or of great sentimental value, please do not bring it to daycare. We will not be held responsible for toys that get broken or lost when brought from home. Children bring toys at their own risk.
OPEN DOOR POLICY:
I have always welcomed the parents to drop by at any time during the time to check on their child without giving me any notice. I want parents to feel comfortable about being in a safe and comfortable environment. So feel free to stop in whenever you would like.
Occasionally the provider may find it necessary to leave the daycare home for a portion of the day. A qualified substitute will be provided if this is necessary. Parents will be informed in advance, if at all possible.
BACK UP CARE:
When choosing Family Child Care it is imperative that you have reliable back up care available. In the event of provider illness, vacations, or personal time off, it is the responsibility of the client to arrange alternate care. However, I am very reliable and hard working, so I will make the utmost effort to remain open when at all possible.
Keppel Family Daycare Home will be closed on the following days for year 2018
New Year’s Day
Independence Day (4th of July)
October 30th (Personal Day)
October 31st (Halloween)(Personal Day)
November 1 (Personal Day)
November 22nd (Thanksgiving)
November 23rd (Black Friday)
December 24th (Christmas Eve)December 25th (Christmas)
Although very rewarding, childcare is also a very high stress occupation requiring long hours. In order to be the best provider I can be, I will need time off to relax with my family or to visit with out of state family. Please secure a person for alternate occasional back up care. I will be taking two weeks of unpaid vacation per year. One week during the winter and one week during the summer. You will be notified at least 4 weeks in advance as to which days Keppel's daycare home will be closed for these vacations.
YOUR FAMILY VACATIONS:
I allow my families to take 4 weeks of vacation time per calendar year where payment is not required to be paid to me during these 4 weeks. I do ask however that you give me at least 2 weeks notice so that I can plan my finances accordingly. You may take these 4 weeks separate or all 4 weeks together. Payment is required for any other time off after these 4 weeks and if two weeks notice is not given.
TERMINATION OF CARE:
After the probationary period, two weeks notice is required for withdrawal by the parents. Parent will be required to pay the full two weeks regardless of the child's attendance. For termination by the daycare provider for reasons other than contract violations, two weeks notice will also be given. Any violation of any article of our contract will be just cause for immediate termination.
I will not care for a child who is feverish, has thrown up or has had diarrhea within the last 24 hours please keep him/her home. If he/she has a green discharge from his nose he/she must be on an antibiotic for 24 hours before he/she can attend. If your child throws up the night before and seems fine the next day, he is more than likely still contagious to the others. You must wait 24 hours. All the children use the same toilet and washroom and they often "mouth" the same toys. They are often very affectionate with each other and it is very difficult to keep a sick child from infecting everyone else.
Illnesses are defined as:
**Fever Over or at a 100. degrees
**Conjunctivitis (pink eye) or "cold in the eye"
**Rapid breathing or labored breathing
**Yellowish skin or eyes
**Contagious illness of any sort which results in child being too ill to participate in daily activities.
** If your child simply is not well and will need constant holding or continues to cry for an extended amount of time, you will be called to pick your child up.I will not accept the child for care if any of the above symptoms are present or have been present within the last 24 hours. If the child shows any of the symptoms while in care, I will remove him from the group and notify the parent or authorized adult to pick up the child.
The child may return 24 hours after a temperature has returned to normal, 24 hours after the child is no longer vomiting, or 24-48 hours (depending on the illness) after the first dose of an antibiotic. If a child receives an antibiotic for an ear infection he may return to day care immediately if he has been free of other symptoms mentioned for at least 24 hours.
The child is welcome when he has only a mild cold (e.g. runny nose or mild cough), but is able to participate in the day's activities.
It is a state law that I have a copy of your child's current immunization records on file. These forms must be updated from time to time. Please bring me a copy of your child's records each time he or she receive shots.
If your child is on medication and it needs to be administered while he is at day care, the medicine must be in the original container and labeled with the child's name, doctor's name, name of medication, dosage, and when to be taken. I will also have a form for you to sign giving me permission to give the medication to your child. Medication will be administered at the time or with the meal you specify and a written record kept.
We are very pet friendly. We currently have 2 dogs that remain in the house. Both dogs are under 10 lbs. They are up to date on all shots. We also have Bunny Rabbits which have their own room. The children will rarely be around the bunnies. If your child has any pet allergies this may not be the place for them.
Pictures are taken often of the children playing. We use these for many reasons including but not limited to emailing parents, on my childcare website, memories, gifts for parents and posting on daycare facebook page.
If for any reason your child will not be here for the day, please call me as soon as possible to let me know. I appreciate this courtesy. There will be no refunds or adjustments made for days missed due to your child's illness, or your days off.
